Abandoned, Lost, or Found Dogs

Cold Wet Noses is a rescue group that treats, fosters, and adopts out dogs rescued from PACC. We do not rescue abandoned, lost, or found dogs.

If you find a dog with a Pima County tag, contact PACC, who will have the owner's contact information from the registration number.

If the dog has no ID, we suggest the following:

1. Take it to a vet or animal hospital to have it scanned for a microchip (there is no charge for this). You will be able to track down the owner either with the help of the veterinarian, the microchip company; or the HSSA. This may take a few telephone calls.

2. Get some color digital pictures of the dog. Print up flyers and put in the neighborhood of where the dog was found. If you are able, put flyers up at PACC (on Silverbell Rd) and the Humane Society.

Upload pictures onto petfinder.com, Craiglist...and.... The HSSA may have other ways to keep and circulate the dog's image in their database.

3. Check online listings (Craiglist, etc.) for 'lost dogs' that match your dog's description.

4. The best thing for a found dog is for it to be in a safe home while you search for its owners. If you are unable to keep it at your home, try to find a trusted person who can.

5. If you cannot find a temporary place for the dog, you can bring it to the Humane Society ($25 drop off fee is required) where the dog will probably get medical attention or, as a last resort, PAAC, which will take dogs in for free. PACC does not have the facilities to treat dogs that are sick or wounded, and euthanizes at a fairly high rate if they are unclaimed, especially for dogs over 3 or 4 years old and show any signs of injury or illness.
